Sixth sense and Google Glass
Couple of years ago, I watched a TED talk featuring Pranav Mistry, a young inventor from MIT featuring his new technology, called Sixth Sense. The idea of merging digital world with the physical world was fascinating. If you haven't watched already, here is the video.
However I wasn't sure about how fast that idea could be adopted in the mainstream.Today Google demonstrated it's revolutionary technology called Google Glass a wearable pair of glasses with in built camera and heads-up display. Their mission seems to be augmenting physical world with digital information , and interacting with digital information with natural language commands. This is somewhat similar to Pranav's thought process revealed in the above presentation. I think Google glass is a revolutionary product, and a step in the right direction. Here's Sergey Brin's demo on Google glass
The demo largely focused on Point of View (Capturing, Saving and Sharing of it). I was hoping to see demos of interaction between digital and physical world. For eg, they could have shown us how you can complete a transaction entirely through google glass. i.e. seeking, searching, locating, and purchasing a product.
The explorer edition of the glasses are being made available only to developers for a price of $1500, with an idea to expand the features available on Google glass. I can't wait to get my hands on a consumer version of this product.
